THIS WEEK'S SHOW

Local exhibitors at the New Plymouth Show did very well indeed, and are to be congratulated on their enterprise in going north, and also on their decision to help the show of North Taranaki. New Plymouth exhibitors

support the Egmont Show at Hawera' and also the Stratford Show. A measure of reciprocity amongst the associations is good for all but no doubt the holding of the New Plymouth Show in March is a deterrent +o ■securing entries from this district. The awards in Ayrshires were a triumph for Messrs. F. Mills and Son, of , lokaora, who almost swept the board. ' They have ample reason to feel pleased with their success. Mr. P. Bremer secured another championship with his fine bull, which scored so well at Hawera. i In Jerseys there was a capital display of high-bred animals. The winners were all good, fine specimens of the best in the breed, but there wa.s hardly the general high standard of excellence throughout, the entries which one would like to see. | Mangatoki and Kaponga breeders were the most prominent in the Friesian section, and carried off most of the awards. Messrs. H. W. Hoskin and T. Perry both scored well in most classes. i

In draughts marked success was secured by Alex Hastie (Normanby), and his winning animals were of fine breed-

ing, carrying on the traditions of the Hastie family. His father, the late Andrew Hastie, bred many fine horses, and was one of the foremost exhibitors for many years. Sheep are never a large entry in a dairying., district, but there were- a large number of very fine animals entered. Mr. J. Forbes, of Normanby, was a successful exhibitor in Romney Marsh purebred sheep and in fat sheep. | The judge was very pleased with the display of pigs, and this is gratifying to Hawera district exhibitors, for they parried off a, lot of the prizes. H. B. Benton, of Tokaora, continues the success he has had at other shows, and got two championships. Messrs. Don Stewart and J. Pill were also very successful. These two both had bail luck in losing valuable animals just before the show during the driving to the grounds, otherwise their success would probably have been still more

marked
