PATEA FREEZING WORKS.
On Tuesday next an extraordinary meeting of the shareholders of the Patea Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Co., Ltd., will be held to consider the proposal for amalgamation with the Taranaki Farmers' Meat Co. The eir-
cumstances which have led up to the proposal being made are generally known, and no more evidence is required than the recent public meeting held at Patea to show how fateful will be the decision arrived at c*f Tuesday next. We have heard arguments both for and against the proposals, but it is not our province to find a verdict and advise shareholders, the plain fact being that the shareholders on Tuesday will b.e dealing with their own property and the outsider has no voice in the matter. At the same time it is patent that the decision arrived at, whichever way it goes, will be far-reaching in its effect upon district interests. Assets representing a large sum of money are at stake, and these are the concern of the shareholders alone, bmt there are other aspects of the matter which make it one of great importance to related interests outside those of the shareholders. There is evidence that endeavour will be made ,to protect these interests as far as possible, and for our part we can do no more than urge upon shareholders to be present at the meeting in order that whatever decision is come to may be that of the general body of shareholders acting upon the fullest information, which can only be in their possession by attendance at the meeting.
