WHEAT EMBARGO.
TO BE CONTINUED FOR A YEAR.
MILLING WHEAT ADVANCE
_ That the embargo on the importation of wheat and flour will be extended for at feast a year from February 29 next was by the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. Noswortky) on Thursday. This is in accordance with the Government's policy to encourage a sufficient Dominion production.
"Unfortunately," said Mr. Nosworthy, "unfavourable weather conditions and other causes have resulted in a Dominion crop which must to some extent prove short of the country's requirements, and a certain amount of importation must thei-efore be arranged for. In conformity with the current year's arrangements, an agreement has been arrived at between millers and farmers, under which milling wheat of the coming harvest will be bought by millers at1 Id Der bushel advance on last season's prices. Flour and bread will not be increased in price, but an adjustment of bran and pollard prices will be made under which bran will be increased by 10s a ton, and pollard reduced by that amount. This will bring prices and the true market value of these commodities into better relation, ship. The agreement will' operate, with the consent of the Government, when the new, season's wheat comes on the market."
