FOOTBALL.
There appears to "oca great deal of secrecy about recent official Rugby hap_ penings at Home, says a Home correspondent. A banquet was held on the evening of the international teams' match at Rugby, to celebrate the cen-i tenary of Rugby, but only three passes were granted to the press. It is understood that v some important speeches were given very little publicity, and that Mr. "Rowland Hill, the grand old man of Rugby, who was for so many years secretary of the English Rugby Union, had something to" say about Rugby in the colonies which they would have been glad to know. Yet, so remarkable were the arrangements for the banquet, and not one Rugby man in a thousand at Home knew it was held, let alone that anything of any importance was said. The New Zealand Rugby Union lias received copies of the toast list, but no official statement of the speeches.
