In the course of a supplementary, -and explanatory pronouncement on the raubject of the cost of living as reflected . by .the rent statistics, the Arbitration Court states it considered it is desirable,, in view of the rent statistics of -jkhe-1921 census, which recently be-^ ttme availablej to make it clear that ;.«ome very important passages in the Government statistics -memorandum Accompanying the census figures has been overlooked by critics »ol the ceort, and an impression.has been created that the court, when -dealing with rents, had worked on inaccurate data. - :^ In order /-to remove any suggestion Jkhftt .the conclusions of the court are at variance with those of the Govern-
ment Statistician, the .court desires to ;%>laee it on record that its members ' 'aaye folly di&cngeed with that officer, in whom they repose the, utmost con- , -fidehce, the statistical matters dealt with in the couri'a pronouncement*, *nd that he has expressed the view that the rent index figures which the court has used are the best measure obtainable of the rent movement, 'and Vindicate that movement with - much \ greater accuracy than is generally re•cognised.
