A NEW GOLF COURSE.
TO PROVIDE WORK
Using the relief of unemployment as a main argument, the Aberdeen People's Journal reports a scheme at Macduff, a town in the county, to con*tnict an eighteen-hole golf course. In the course of a discussion in the columns of the paper, it is urged that ! the laying out of the land would be the means of relieving the unemployment problem, and that the course when completed would be a great sou-cv> o.f. attraction to visitors who would bring money into the town. But there are others who are taking tho view that the community is in more urgent need of other improvements. TTie Tarlair scheme is beine promoted by a committee of Macduff business men, and th© town council is almost wholly in favour of it. Tt has been proposed that the town council apply for a grant of £1000 from the Unemployment Grants Committee in respect of the work of laying out the course, which is likely to enst about £2000, and it is expected, that £500 will be allocated to the scheme out of the Duff House Trust Funds, which are at the disposal of the t<Wn for the improvement of its amenities. The promoters of the enterprise some time ago enlisted the aid of Mr. Smith, golf professional at Lossiemouth, and he has drawn out plane for what he guarantees will be a first-class course. Although considerable opposition was shown in some quarters, it vas decided that the scheme would be carried to finality. _ j
