TENNIS.
Players at all the clubs have been taking full advantage of the opportunities for p rap lice in this great spell and all our courts have been busy. It is a very interesting time of the year from Christinas to Noy,- Year, and there is nearly every day much in-te;-e-;-:ting reading for the enthusiast. Good progress is be-in; made with the construction of the two hard courts at Triple wood. This club hopes to have their four eouvls in use early in the new year, and they are needed, as theclub lms had a considerable influx of members.
Tennis is flourishing along the coast. Fataraimaka, Okato and Pungarehu are among the strongholds of the game, and Warea will soon possess two courts, as a. live club has been formed, and is losing no time in laying down two courts in the Domain. 1 Clarke, ol" Stratford, wa.s not available against the Australians, but it is expected he will be able to attend the Taranaki tournament. THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. The next important engagement for tennis players is the Taranaki toiirna- I ment, which opens at New Plymouth on January 8. There is certain' to be a considerable number of outside en- j tries. E. D. Andrews, the young , Palmerslon North player, who won the championship hist year, has signified his intention of defending the title, whilst Smythe. one of the best Otago players, and D. Salmond, of Wellington, will also he present. Taranaki players- are certain to enter in large numbers.
