COOKS AND STEWARDS.
NEW AWARD SOUGHT
WELLINGTON, Nov. 19 "The hearing commenced to-day of "the Dominion dispute covering the cooks and stewards in 45 companies running small steamers in the New 'Zealand coastal trade. The union askeO for wages ranging from £21 monthly for cooks and stewards to £8 15s for assistants under 17; hours of -work at sea to be 6.30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and in nort between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Other Proposals covered Sunday work, "holidays preference, shipwreck, etc. The employers offered £14. monthly to chief stewards, ranging clown to £6, the hours of work at sea to be 10 per '<say, to be worked within 18 hours from the time of the commencement 'of the individual. Hours of work in port were claimed a? between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Agreements were reached ■on a few minor clauses only, and the remainder were referred to the Aroitration Court,
