SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS

j The pupils of the Manaia State - School who have been exempted from further attendance at the forthcoming proficiency examination are: Hector j Bennett, lan Mac Donald, Eric Ransom, ' Ina Howard, Jean Sproull, Edwa.rd Hammonds, Winnie Johnston, Emily j Davis, James Murfitt.. Clariss Reeve, ' Ranilph Sandford. The ordinary pro- : fiency examination comes on November 21, when those not exempted will J attend. The above-mentioned pupils are to be congratulated upon their sue- ' cess, which reflects grea.t credit on the headmaster, Mr Adams. The breakingup ceremony in connection with the school will take place in the Town Hall •on December 20, when the prises will be distributed to the pupils. I am sure I am voicing the feelings of the citizens of Manaia and district when I state that they regret very much Mr Adams' departure from Manaia at the end of the year. Sin«e coming to I Manaia.' he has done splendid work for the school.

ANGLICAN SALE OF WORK. The Anglican sale of wqrk to be held in the Manaia Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon and night promises to be a huge success. A great variety of goods will be offered for sale on the different stalls of plain, produce, sweet and flower, also competitions of various kinds, fish pond, shooting gallery and hoop-la. A first-class musical and vocal programme will be submitted at the evening function. The Holly bank Orchestra will give various selections, and the Manaia Municipal Brass Band will render a nrogramme in front of the Town Hall at 7.30 p.m. The various committees have worked very hard and are taking forward to making this annual sale of work eclipse all previous efforts. A hapny time is guaranteed to all. THE BAND. The Manaia Municipal Brass Band gave a well-selected programme on Saturday night in the rotunda, which was much appr-ecaited by a large audience.
