At 3.15 yesterday afternoon the Rotorua express collided with a motor car at a crossing two miles east of Matamata, throwing the car twenty yards and smashing it. Two of the occupants of the car, Dave Morrow, of Matamata, and the driver were killed. W. Crowther, secretary of the Auckland Sinking Fund Commission, was rendered unconscious and is suffering from shock and severe abrasions. He was taken to a private hospital and is considered out of danger. The engine whistle continuously, but the occupants of the car appeared not to hear and took no notice.
