REDUCTION OF STAKES.

CANTERBURY CLUB'S DECISION

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 5. The Canterbury Jockey Club has adopted a report of the programme committee recommending the following reductions of stakes:—Spring meeting £3050, summer meeting £550, autumn meeting £1250, a total of £4850. The total amounts to be distributed during the year are now: Grand National meeting £13,000, spring meeting £21,800, summer meeting '£2350. autumn meeting £8350, a total of £45.000. Last year the amount was £50,100.

For future events the committee recommends reductions in stakes as follows: —Welcome Stakes, 1924. by 200 soys.; Champagne Stakes. 1925, by 200 soys.; Derby, 1925, by 400 soys."; Oaks 1925, by 250 soys.; and the 34th Challenge Stakes, 1926, by 200 soys
