MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A Scout social was held in the Manaia Oddfellows' Hall on Friday night, there beintj a large gathering of Scouts and parents. A very enjoyable evening was spent in games and competitions, in which Mr Davis won the smelling and observation contest. The Rev. D. Smith was in charge, assisted by -Scoutmaster A. Sorrie. Mr A. G. Bennett, chairman of the Scouts, addressed th© parents and Scouts on the Scout movement, and said that the running of these social evenings was to get parents to encourage the Scouts. At the" conclusion of his address Mr liennett received hearty applause. The ladies provided a very .nice supper, and at the conclusion'the Rev. Mr Smith returned thanks to the ladies for the very nice evening they had provided for the Scouts, and called fqr three hearty cheers for the ladies, which were heartily given by the- Scouts.. Great improvements have iust been finished at the Kaupokonui Waiokura factory, including , a tiled tank and drain. It is a splendid piece of workmanship, for which great credit is due to Mr S. Whiter, the builder, who is employed by the firm of Collinson and Son, Palmerstmi North. The many friends of Mr Cave, who is an inmate of the Manaia private hospital, will be pleased to hear that he is doing well sifter his very severe operation. We all wish him a speedy recovery. Mrs M. Brown, of Manaia, is well on the way to recovery after her very serious illness. Her friends wish her a speedy (recovery.
