PREMIER'S PLANS.
EXTENDED SESSION LIKELY
(By Telegraph—Special to Star.)
AVELLINGTON, Aug. 13. During the week-end Cabinet spent many hours considering measures for submission to the House before the session ends. It is also reported to have given careful thought t© a proposal that a certain amount of the Government's programme shall be reserved for attention after the date of the Premier's departure for England. If within the next fortnight the House can dispose of the estimates and. financial Bills, together with several other important policy measures which require the personal attention of the Premier, it is felt by his colleagues that the remainder of the Government's programme, stripped of points involving party-differences, might well be left until after August 28, thus enabling the most important business to be done without undue haste. Among the matters mentioned as. likely to be reserved for attention during the Premier's absence are the Harbours Bill, Public AVorks^Statement, and estimates, the lengthy' collection of miscellaneous clauses known as the Washing-up Bill, the Native General Empowering Bill of a similar character, and several minor Government measures, which could be dropped till next session if serious opposition arises. It is thought that sittings lasting a fortnight after Mr. Massey s departure would enable the full sessional programme to" Be completed without undue haste.
