RIGHTS OF RIFLEMEN

At a meeting of the Olympic Council a motion was passed recognising the right of riflemen who competed for money prizes to compete at the Olympic Games. Tl-.e High Commissioner notified that Dominion teams would have to enter through the English football and rowing bodies. Mr Dean said the New Zealand Rugby Union would go home inde-pendentiy of any other body. Asked if the Rugby Union would assist the Council with funds, he said: "No. The Imperial aspect of the games had disappeared. They had been handed over to a. str.dium committee'at the Empire Exhibition, and it might be a private enterprise.
