HOSPITAL FINANCE.

HIGHER SUBSIDY NEEDED.

(BY TELEGBAPW PRKSB ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 19. A deputation from the Hospital Boards Conference waited on Mr. Massey to-day with a request for an increase in the Government subsidy to hospitals and to present other resolutions carried at the conference. . It was pointed out that the Government was only providing 42 per cent, of the net maintenance requirements, and the boards desired at least 50 per cent. If the request was granted the Government would have to find about £60,000 more from the consolidated fund. Mr. Massey said the difpkmlty of the | board*: appeared to have arisen out of j the fact that the 1909 Act had become obsolete. He would- consult his colleagues, and if it was possible? to get legislation through this session then it would be done. The Government i would not shirk its responsibilities
