OPERA HOUSE—TUESDAY NEXT.

MISS AMY #CASTLES, GREAT AS EVER.

Discussing Miss Amy Castles, who is to give one concert in Hawera on Tuesday next, the critic of the Mel"bourne Sun said: "The Amy Castles "voice has lost none of its earlier glories. It has added many to them. This is an inescapable verdict by anyone who heard her sing Ophelia's Mad Scene at the Town Hail last night. There were temperamental wonders in almost every, phase, delights in every mood, and beauty in every note. It was that Mad Scene with, which she came back to the concert platform in Melbourne after her stuides in Paris. Beautiful as her vocalisation was then, and even memorable, as she delivered the scene last night it was a revelation of her artistry that would stand comparison with anything heard in Australia in many years. To any voice of lighter quality the colour and warmth she infused into it is- quite impressible. But Amy Castles, certainly the greatest dramatic singer Australia has yet sent .forth, proved also that she keeps more abreast of the new musical movements than any of her song sisters. Not for many a year has any first-class artist chosen to be heard "here in so much unknown, but at the same time beautiful, music. Kurt Schindler's Jewish, lament, Eili. Eili, as poignant to the depths, and Miss Castles sang it/with thrilling anguish." Miss Castles will have the assistance of Alberto Torzillo (harpist), Charles Tuck we] i (pianist), and her celebrated sister, Eileen Castles. The plans will open at Mrs. Cook's to-morrow morning.
