Ernest Ashton and Thomas Wobster, members of the crew of the Tekoa.. were' convicted at the Police Court to-day on . a charge of stealing two bottles of! whisky, the property of the New Zea-| land-Snipping Company, and were fined £5 each, in default one month's imprisonment. Mr Bartholomew, the magistrate, stated that under ordinary circumstances the penalty would be imprisonment, but he did not wish to impose a penalty which meant keeping the men in the Dominion. The police stated cargo broaching was very .prevalent,, and the police were receiving complaints at every port. If anyone was convicted on a charge of this nature the r>oli"e would prefer to see him out of the Dominion.
