STATE ORCHESTRA.
Writing of a matinee, performance at' the Consorvatorinm Hall, tlio Sydney Morn in ff Herald says:— Both sections , of the programme, were headed by ex- ; n-mples of "Wagner's music. The first ; was the "Macstersingers" overture, which was brilliantly treated. Tn tho ; , famous "'Ride of the Valkyries" the re-! i purring phrases gave an appropriate I f&f-linsc of suspense, while the thunder ' nm] lightnino; a]l d driving cloud which brood over the scene were strongly portrayed. The compositions which raised the greatest enthusiasm, however, were Jamefeldt's "Preludium,'' which } snffgosterl with its gradual rise of tone in the pi zicato the npproaoli of a m«rry caralcado, and Percy Orninorer'.s | "^Pliwds Hoy." Tins exhilarating . little, piece^ (in which tho orchestra, is supported by a piano), calls up n vision
of merry country folk "dancing in the chequered shade," with ever-increasing excitement to the riotous and somewhat eccentric close.
