I BALLOT-BOXES WITH SLIDING I ' ' * PANELS. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT Received June 11, 11.5 a.m. SYDNEY, June 11. The Labour Conference carried the Brisbane resolution favouring the socialisation of industry, distribution, and control. An exciting debate followed the statement by a delegate that a thousand spurious ballot papers were issued for the selection ballot for the Sydney seat in January, 1920, ballot-boxes with a sliding panel being allegedly used. Mr. Willis (chairman) stated that a committee was inquiring into the matter, but had not finished its investigations. It had secured sufficient evidence to go into any court. It had been established that a number of bal-lot-boxes with sliding panels had been made and delivered. They were used in the selection ballot, but whether there was manipulation or not he could not say. Mr. Willis added that he had secured a ballot-box used in the elec- . tion of the last executive and dis- . covered that it had a sliding panel. , He produced this box for examination. Howevei the commfttee had no reason
whatever to believe that the box was corruptly used in the election of the executive. It was intended to probe the matter to the bottom, and, if neces. sary, take leffil action.
