(From a COl respondent). I On May 23 we held 011 Mr Murphy's ] roperty our first secuers' sports meet- j lg, and were iavoured witii splendid eather. The Sports Committee were very forunate in securing Mr P. Sheehan to tanuicap for them, and they thank am for his splendid services. * The reults of most of the events were, fought >ut to a close finish. " Quite a crowd of visitors were present from Hawera, r'atea, and all the surrounding country listricts. The best feature of the day was unloubtedly the seven-a-side football, the ;eams, of which there were seven, foeng mostly well matched, and some eally good play resulted. Excitement ran very liign on the lines among the spectators. The prize was won by the. VvheHuakura team. The committee wish to thank all those who helped in any way during the day, particularly those business people 111 town who presented trophies for iadies' and children's events. The event was concluded with a dance in the evening, which was well attended, and a thorough success it proved. The club intend holding a sports meeting every year in the future, providing, of course, that things go right. The results were as follow:— The sheep guessing,- dead weight, was won by Mr Slater, who guessed 132£ lbs, correct weight being 132 lbs. Mr Garfield Wallace presented sheep to the club.
