-&R. ROBERT HORNE CHANCELLOR

Received ida> 23, 11.30 a.m

LONDON, May 21 The party leaders have chosen Mr.

Baldwin as Premier Sir Robert Home has agreed to become Chancellor. ■ It is understood that there will be no vital changes in the Cabinet and that Lord Curzon is ready to continue as Foreign Secretary. The consensus of opinion among Unionists is that it is essential that the Premier should be in the Commons, ■where the strongest opposition is forthcoming, while in the House of Lords there is practically no opposition. The Labourites are also of the opinion there would be no> justification for } \ appointing a member of the House of j *~ Lords as Premier. Labour is now recognised as the Opposition, and ; though Without representation in the S Lords it believed that in the event of a ' peer being chosen as Premier Labour | ■would have used every political device ' to precipitate a dissolution. j Mr. Bonar Law has written the ' Glasgow Unionist Association stating that his decision to resign was in the «nd sudden. He had hoped, when he went away, that he would sufficiently ' . recover to make resignation Tinneces- ' sary, but he had suffered constant pain and he had come back really worse. The ' ■doctors 1 -verdict left Km no choice. He ■ presumed there would be no objection i to continuing as a member, at least ; during this Parliament, thougli it is un- j likely he would be able to attend the House tMs session.
