"Down Home/ the first independent, production to be made by Irvin V.. Willat/ is. to be shown to-night at the Empress Pictures; Manaia. "Down Home" is an adaptation of the Frank '■ N - Westcott novel. 7'Dabney Todd," which has been read and enjoyed by thousands since it was published four' or five years ago. It is a story that embodies ail the emotions/ of which ; human mind and heart are capable—it, makes; you laugh, it makes you cry —I it makes you think of the many vicissitudes life holds for some of us, and then it makes you realise that we can make a stepping stone to higher
things out of each trial that comes to ! us, if we only try hard enough and look at things in the right way. The management have been successful in securing the services of Mr Thomas Harvey, who; will -sing the 3song that he made such a hit with in Hawera not long: ago—"The :Sheik bf Araby.",. In addition, Mr Harvey will sing that popular song. "Go to . Sea.";; Another turn of equal merit wiil be Mr Ralph Vivian, charactercomedian.: Mr Vivian will sing Miss Ella .Shields' famous song success, "Berlington Bertie from Bowl" One of the greatest features of the programme will be the' orchestra of twenty/ the services of these ers having been secured by special arrangements with the Hawera Orchestral Society. The plan is how open at Mr W. Lewin's and patrons are strongly advised to book early. Prices remain as usual.
