While prisoners were clearing the prison ground they discovered a large 3 brass key, which proved to be a master key for every . lock in the gaol at the time of Clark's ' escape. Clarke was transported to Van Dieman's Laud in 1847. and died at Geelong at the age of 57. He had a record of sentence^ totalling eightyseven years for various crimes. ;
