SENTENCE ON ARCHIBISHOP. ay cable—PEEiss -association—copyrighi LONDON, April 2. Cardinal Bourne, preaching m Westminster Cathedral, protested against the sentence passed on the Russian archbishop.. "The whole ' world," he said, ,< <has shuddered at the news. The archbishop was sentenced solely because he did his duty as a Christian. Ten years solitary confinement is more awful than death itself." LONDON, March 31. The Moscow correspondent of the Daily Telegraph stated that the commutation was granted to Archbishop Zepliak, lest Catholics should regard the penalties as being directed • against priests and religion generally, but Budekviteh used his status as a priest to participate in counter-revolutionary plots. Soviet newspapers, in justifying the sentences, resent foreisn interference.
They.declare that the Anglican Church, which formerly executed Roman Catholics. ; has no ,ri<?ht to protest, while British Labour leaders who dine with the King cannot be seriously regarded.
