The .g^mMiana arranged by the Egmont A* *nd P. Association and the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club was at> t tended by about 2000 people on Satur[day, and, may be looked upon as a suei.oesstul undertaking. The day was a red-kfcter one for athletics in Hawera, the of the Country Clubs' Championship to the local club enabling many people to see the crack athletes competing. The Masterton Club, which sent up a strong team, easily retained the MeVilley Shield. They had some good all-round, men in their-'team. The trotting and jumping events were watched with interest, the performances of the Australasian champion, Man-o'-War, being an outstanding.feature. ' The Highland; dancing was well up 1 to the. usual -high standard, the music (being supplied by members ef the Eltham Pipe Band. - ! The McVflley Shield was won by' ■ Masterton, who scored 76 points.
