HORSE FAIR.
On Friday last the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., in conjunction with Mr. It. P. Morrissey, conducted their annual autumn horse fair at Hawera. A good entry came forward, about 100 horses being catalogued, the bulk of which were useful heavy sorts; which were in keen demand, the majority changing hands at prices considerably in advance of previous sales. There is a dearth of young horses in this district, and it is anticipated that high prices for useful heavy sorts will rule next spring. There was a good attendance 'at the sale, including buyers from Auckland and Manawatu, who were operating freely and secured a number of useful sorts. Young light draughts brought from £35 to £38, aged do £25 to £32, best milk carters £27 to £37 10s, aged and lighter sorts £22 to £26, light harness
horses iEIO 10s to £20, fair hacks £8 to £16, ponies £8 to £12, gigs £10 to £25. Harness and sundries realised satisfactory prices.
