THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL.
Inverleith had a gathering of some 30,000 spectators on Saturday to see Scotland win with some ease her first Rugby international of the year—that against France. It was, a. vigorous match with not. a ; few casualties, in which the Frenchmen suffered most, and the visitors did not reproduce the form they showed at Paris last year. They had plenty of dash, but not skill to match. The experts are, by no means satisfied with the Scottish team, though only one alteration has been made for the game against Ireland, and are not confident that it will be equal to the only encounter that really matters —that f against England in March. The English, however, are saying much the same about their team. One of the items in the programme for the Duke of York's Glasgow visit this week-end is to go. to. Hampden Park to-morrow, where he will see what is claimed to be the finest football ground in the world. The match itself is of secondary importance —Queen's Park against Bathgate—but a huge crowd is expected to- give the-Duke its congratulations on his good sense in seeking and his good fortune in obtaining a Scottish bride.
