EXTRA EDITION REPARATIONS.

TIMES COMMENT.

FRENCH; ATTITUDE DEPLORED I PEACE ENDANGERED.

IT OABTAHPRMfI* ASSOCIATION-COPYaiGRI Received Jan. 6, 11 ahi { ' _, :..r LONDON, Jan. 5. Ine Times says editoristlly: "For two reasons Britain, deeply deplores the breakdown of the conference. Firstly because hopes of a solution of the reparations problem through thevcomprelien&ye^and reasonable British plans are foiled; plunging the immediate future of Europe into uncertainty, while the adoption of the plan even in a modified form would' have meant a -gradual return to sanity. Thus* the economic scheme for, raising large-gums from Germany has been rejected without serious consideration ih favour of plans for raising small sums immediately by separate action. Secondly, France has taken serious risks, even if a former British Government failed in its duty to make tne country's view ofl reparation plain.' It is not clear why the French have now committed therriselyes to a} reckkless adventure of creating a position m which, recovery of adequate reparation by any of the A[««s is extremely doubtful. .-, The whole fabric of peace is iii grave danger. Britain must find strength to accomplish her own task of recovery^
