BY CABMI-ttIESS ASSOCIATION—OOPYEIGHT I Received Jan. 5, 11.40 a m ' ti, r -d „ Jan. 4. lhe liner Ballarat is bound for Austraha flying the flag of the British ■faeinc Science Expedition, bringing an advance party of scientists, including Mr. Connolly (geologist), Mr. Church (ornithologist), Mr. Prescott (mammals) Mr. Frewen (entomologist) and Mr Find ay (topographist). The object of the expedition is a thorough scientific exploration of New Guinea. • lhe party will remain in Melbourne some little time and then proceed to Oape Yorke to study the geological conditions before crossing the Straits • to New Guinea. The expedition is influentially supported and is prepared to spend £80,000 and to do four years" work. The duties of the present advance party are to select base camps to arrange for carrier transport and supplies m New Guinea for the main party, consisting of twenty scientists, who will leave England towards the end of 1924. After preliminary investigations are completed, the advance party returns to England to report to the committee before the main party leaves.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn
