POLITICAL SITUATION
MELBOURNE, Jan. 4. Mr .4 Hughes to keep silence regarding the political situation, and probably nothing definite will be known before the final declaration of the polls is made, , which should be withm a week. Should Mr. Hughes decide to attempt to carry on in fa<*e of the fact that his own oarty has riot a working majority, 'and the Country Party shows little inclination to work under him, he will find him-' self m a very difficult position. His initial difficulty wfll he the replacement of five defeated Ministers. The position is altogether very mixed, and all sorts of rumours are current.
