IMPROVEMENT IN HAWERA

After a considerable period of quiet | in the building trade —the inevitable re-1 suit of the slump—it is encouraging to' note the rapid progress towards re-1 covery which is being made in this district. No less than five large buildings are in course of erection in fiawera. The largest project is the erection of a two-storied .reinforced concrete building for Messrs Bright and Kemp, on the corner of High Street j and Caledonia Street. The ground floor i space measures 118 ft. by 65ft., and will be used by Mr. Kemp as offices, garage, and workshop. Upstairs the greater portion of the space will be used by Mr. Bright as dental rooms, leaving a portion.facing* High Street available to let-as offices. Mr. A. Brown is the builder. In Union Street a big reinforced concrete warehouse is being built for Messrs Burgess, Fraser and Co; The building, which is a single-storied one, measures 165 ft. by 33ft./ and a cart dock in front and "a loading bank at the back will enable it to be worked from either fend. Joll; It will be used as' a' billiard room and is designed on modern lines with a lantern roof, which will permit; of the use of the tables during the: T-d-ay> without any possibility of .a shadow being thrown. Mr. A. B. Burrell is the builder. . Where the Broadway restaurant used to stand in Princes Street Messrs Gasserly arid Corcoran will erect a doublestoried- reinforced concrete building. The ground floor will be used by Mr: T. Urlich as a fish shop and diningroom, arid also as a billiard room. The upstairs portion, to which there will be a private entrance, will be let as offices. Mr. J. .Grant,. the builder, will commence operations shortly. All the above works have been designed and are being carried out by Messrs Duffill and Gibson, architects. A single-storied brick building, 40ft. by 70ft., is being erected by the Egmont A. and P. Association in Nelson Street.
