Whilst contending with a terrific storm in the Bay of Biscay an explosion of fire damp occurred on the French steamer Madali, which was carrying a cargo of coall to /Ugiers from Cardiff, hurling the hatches into the sea. Four of the crew were seriously injured. The captain ran towards Coronna for medical aid. Two of the crew died in hospital.—United Service.
