MR CORRIGAN AT PATEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The political campaign was opened here last Monday, when Mr J. E. Corrigan fired the first shot in the present struggle. There was not a very-large attendance, but the speaker handled his subjects in great form from his point of view. His advocacy of mral banks, acquisition of the Bank of New Zealand by the State, and preferential voting met with the approval of the majority of his hearers. He criticised without; mercy the present Government 's administration of the Eailways and the Postal Department, and. condemned Mr Massey for f ailing to hypnotise the House into passing the butter pool scheme. The speech was in all respects similar to those" given at Hawera and Kakaramea, which have already been reported in your columns, and therefore do not call for further repetition. Mr Corrigan was accorded a very attentive hearing. Very few questions were asked. A vote of thanks to the candidate for his interesting address was moved by Mr Murphy, and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the proceedings.
