STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS.

Gillanders, chairman of , . the Citizens' Unemployment Fund Com- J ' mittee, we have received the following ! statement of accounts, tte effort nowhaving been brought to a conclusion, j Receipts (from August 28 to October 13)—Star collections as acknowledged through Stir, £82 4s 6d; F. Gillanders' collections as acknowledged through Star. £142-4s"3d; total, £224 8s 9d. , ' Expenditure—Half wages disbursed to Borough Council,. £206 12s I'd; adI vertising in Star, £8 10s; charges for I lighting and cleaning of Opera House (Opera House free), £3; sundry payments, 10s 6d; bank charge, ss; cheque *-book, 4s; balance of cash in hand, £-5 * 7s 2d; total, £224 8s 9d. The balance in hand, £5 7s 2d, the committee propose to hand over to the • Women's National Reserve. > I The committee desire to thank con--1 tributors for .the liberal manner in " which the appeal was responded to so r far as they^ were concerned, but the 1 number of those who had come forward r was riot as large as was expected, nor f as,the necessity demanded. It "vfas f certainly gratifying to see "so many : willing to assist, hut the comntijtrtee regretted that tne- work could not hav^ i been continued for a longer period. j However, the funds at the disposal of j the committee did not permit this, and j had it not been for the assistance of j the Borough Council the effort' would | have fallen very far short of what was expected and what was required.
