EIFLE SHOOTING.
The results of the competitions in; the National Rifle Association meeting of New South. Wales record much marvellously fin© shooting. The Sydney Morning Herald, reporting the . finals, I says: "So high was the standard in{ the two main matches, the Motton at 300 yards and the Dangar at 800 and 900 yards, that apart from the first places in each case being won on possibles, no prizes were allotted at all on scores below 46 out of a possible 50 in > the first case and 65 out of a possible 70 in the second. It is believed that this may constitute a record, but it is i impossible to make definite comparisons "with previous years as the conditions regarding the mimber of shots and distances' have been greatly changed this year to allow of another match to be put in the series. . . . The conditions were evidently satisfactory at the time of shooting, for a surprising number of I competitors scored possibles over the distances. Two riflemen —S. J. Jackson, of, v Sydney, and W. Isles, of Prahran (Victoria) —scored double possibles, which is a rare performance. . . Especially outstanding was the performance of R. A. McCook, of Parramatta, who scored 17 bullseyes in succession. W. H. Cutler, of the Randwick Literary Institute, three times winner of the King's Prize, and run- i ner-up of last year, won second place after putting on 14 successive 'bulls,' and A. M. Bush (Bendigo) came third also with a possible. In continuing;, however, he failed in the first shot, and under the rules of the association was obliged to stop."
