A POPULAR MINISTER.
REV. MR. INGS FAREWELLED.
The congregation of the Presbyterian Church met last evening in order to farewell Rev. James IngSj who irasofor. the past two and a half months acted as locum tenens during the absence of Rev. H. B. Gray on sick leave. Mr. J. S. Murray presided, and in a happy speech conveyed to Mr. and Mrs. Ings the thanks of the congregation for their labours and interest^ in all the activities of the charge. He referred to the readiness of Mr. Ings to assume the work without any previous knowledge of Hawera or district and to his adaptation to the needs of the work. Mr. Sargent briefly expressed the thanks of the managers' court for Mr. Ings' helpful advice and counsel in all matters pertaining to that body. j Mr. J. S. Murray took the opportunity of welcoming Mr. and* Mrs. L. A. Bone home again, from their trip to the Old Country, and during the evening Mr. Bone gave an entertaining account of some of his- travels across America and in Great Britain. Musical items and social chat provided a pleasant break. Miss Barker's orchestra opened with two bright marches, Mrs. Cate and' Miss Trotter rendered solos, Mrs. Strange' delighted , the audience with ' 'Bairnies Cuddle Doori," . Mr. Green sang two capital ;bass songs, and Messrs. Cate.and Taylor a duet. ■'...■: Mr. Ings in' felicitous phrases responded to the addresses of thanks, andV after a bountiful supper had been handed round the proceedings ter-; minated with "Auld Lang Syne," sung in the true Scottish style. .■■
