ADMIRALTY COURT.

COLLISION AT SEA

si cable— pbess association-copyright

LONDON, Oct. 27. In/the Admiralty Court. Mr. Justice Hill gave judgment in an action in which the Court was asked by the owners of the New Zealand Shipping Company's Remuera and the Ellerman liner Marengo, which collided in the English Channel recently, to determine which ship was responsible for the collision.

He said the ships sighted each other at such close range that a collision was inevitable. .Both, were proceeding at an excessive speed, considering the fog. Inasmuch as the Marengo improperly altered her course on hearing the Remuera's whistle, but before the Remuera was sighted, he held the Marengo was responsible in the proportion of twothirds and the Remuera one-third.— Aus.-N.Z.
