QUARTERLY MEETING.

The. Hawera Methodist September quarterly meetnig was held last nightj the Rev. A. Liversedge presiding over a good representation. Apologies were received from Messrs A. Perkin, L. S. Barraclough, 11. Clement, and E. Dixon, M.P. The circuit membership was returned at 268, a slight increase over that of last year, with 14 removals, 2 deaths, and 11 discontinuances during the year. A standing vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs. Hardley was passed. The financial statement showed an augmented deficit, chiefly owing to parsonage improvements and repairs, and a finance committee was appointed to arrange for its reduction. The Normanby and Hawera Sunday School anniversaries were fixed for December 10 and 3 respectively. The Sunday School returns showed a roll membership of 319 scholars, special attention being directed to the large increase at Normanby and to the formation of a Girls' Club there. It was decided to open a Sunday School in the Tawhiti State School premises on Sunday next, at 2.30 p.m. Arrangements were made for special Christmas offei'ings in support of the Mount Albert Orphanage. Gratification was expressed at the influences created by the recent mission conducted by Mr. H. Leslie Piper, and an autograph album was placed in charge of Mr. W. T. j Johnson. Messrs. J. Foy and W. T. j Johnson were appointed representatives to Synod; substitute representatives, Mesdames Mills and L. J. Williams. The• following resolution was carried: "That this meeting commends to the i consideration of Synod the resolution on war prevention, which was adopted unanimously by the International Christian Church Conference at Copenhagen, and requests Synod to urge its endorsement by conference."
