A NEW AEROPLANE.
LARGE LANDING GROUNDS .UNNECESSARY. | An entirely new type of aeroplane ( has been designed. It has two tails ' i and two fuselages, and it is claimed ; that it can reverse its direction when ! in flight without having to turn round. ;' The aeroplane is named the "Two-way ! machine, and is a kind of Siamese • twin of the air (says the Daily Ex- ' press). There is only a single set of wings and struts, as in ordinary craft, , but a fuselage is built fore and aft— the tails pointing in opposite directions. The idea has been evolved by an American aeronautical engineer. A start can be made with the "Twoway" with either end forward, and the machine makes large landing grounds unnecessary, as it can "take off or be brought to rest in a very short distance. It is in this respect lika a helicopter. There is a single ! engine, but two propellers. Only the 1 forward propeller is used when the machine is in the air. Landing in a very small field is accomplished by reducing the speed of the engine, throwing the forward propeller out of clutch with the engine and the, rear propeller ! in clutch with it. The pilot sits in aj swivel seat, and when he alters the direction of Ms novel craft has simply to swing round in order to get a clear I view ahead. The - time lhat is saved ! when, instead of having to fly round ! in a wide circuit, the engine is merely switched over jm the other .propeller is very considerable.
