COMPLAINTS BY AKALIS.
DANGERS OF RELIGIOUS STRIFE. Received Oct. 16, 10.20 a.m.
DELHI, Oct. 15. I _ The committee of non-co-operators investigating the alleged police excesses ; against the Akalis has dispersed; The | last bulletin complains that no evidence' was tendered on behalf of the Govern- j Jnent. The Akali leaders have issued ' a corhmunique complaining of insufficient accommodation jn the local gaol, also complaining of the food, stating that there are ,900 prisoners there though the accommodation is only sufficient for 150. Vigorous counter propaganda against *he Akalis is being issued, pointing ent that the Akalis are not the only Sikhs and do not represent the other sects. If the Akalis seize the shrines end religious liberties the other sects will be seriously affected. If one sect takes possession of the shrines forcibly it is quite likely that another sect will act similarly. Consequently, instead of peace there will be contiriual religious strife.—Aus.-N.Z.
