PENSION COMMISSION

iBT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.; WELLINGTON, Oct. 10. The Pension Commission to-day heard evidence of representatives of patriotic societies. Mr. D. S. Smith, representing the N.Z.R.S.A., said he had tested,the feeling of returned men regarding the Appeal Board. The general opinion was that medical evidence should be referred to a board of laymen ,if not, the decision, finally came, under Sir Donald McGavin's proposals, from one medical expert. Experience in the courts showed that medical experts differed frequently and strongly, and decisions must be made by laymen trained iiy sifting evidence, a barrister or a judge.
