RUGBY FOOTBALL.
In the course of a social held by the Star Football Club it was mentioned by Mr. Humphries that he remembered the time when the club had won four competitions in a season. Although five competition cups had been won by New Plymouth in the^ present season', only one had been won by the Star Club. . He strongly urged, on young players especially, the heed of giving more time to training. This, it may be added, lias been urged in this sports column time and again. Training combined with some coaching was responsible for Tukapa's success this season. Mr. McLeod's statement at New Plymouth that there was no room in Taranaki for the League game has been strongly eombatted by League enthusiasts up that way.
Star Club set a fine example this year by giving medals to the most useful players "on and off the field." This is very sensibly taking into consideration the influence of the player outside the team, and may well be copied by other' clubs.
