AGRICULTURAL WONDER.
In the Philippines the sides of a mountain have been adapted by the natives to the uses of agriculture by means of series of wonderful terraced, rice fields cut by native labour in the mountain sides, and resembling nothing bo much as an enormous natural amphitheatre. This agricultural marvel Is in one of the wildest and most remote regions of Luzon, the chief island of the Philippine Archipelago. The^peopie are primitive y but have been led by
necessity to produce this marvellous piece of landscape gardening on a colossal scale in order to till their mountainous soil to the best advantage. The terracea are connected by irrigation canals, which provide an equal , and regular flow of water , and the steepest slope» are thus converted intu fertile fields for rice production. j
