MENT.

. .LONDON, Oct. 5. • A summary of Nthe Angora Governments reply to the Allied invitation .to afpeace conference has been received T>y the Foreign Office: It states the lAngora Government appreciates the ■desire for a just and durable peace. ' The Mudania- meeting will deal' with, the Angora Government's viewpoint regarding the present military situation, and its decisions will be com-; pletely executed. As regards a peace conference, An.gora accepts the invitation as previously cabled, and thanks the Allies for ' lecognising Turkish rights in* Thrace. It declares there is no disagreement in regarding the freedom of the Straits and to secure the safety of '•Constantinople and the Sea of Mar.mora, and to safeguard minorities, "within limits compatible either with, the independence and sovereignty of Turnkey or the exigencies of an effective i in the Near East. The reply points out that apart from /jthe four great Powers and Greece, two mother States have been invited, presumably because they are interested in ■certain questions to be settled; but i&e only important, question of this .kind .'is the control of the Straits.. 'Therefore^ Angor,a is surprised ■ that \ GBussia, the Ukraine and Georgia were mot ijivited, since they are deeply ini;eresTOd. Their participation and help -would make a settlement more' lasting. lAngora promises to communicate a re3>ly later regarding membership of the Xeague of Nations^ . ~ / i The Angora Government welcomes"the renewed assurances regarding the evacuation of "Constantinople by .Al..lied troops, and is convinced the Allies •appreciate the impatience with which Angora "awaits the realisation *bf this. ';The -reply states Angora is. impressed T>y the appeal with which the Allied concludes, and vassures the Allies 'of Angora's loyal and- sincere assistance in re-establishing and maintaining rpeace. Angora's proposal that the peace '.conference should be held at Smyrna is ::not favoured in authoritative eireles ,: dn London, owing to its remoteness ifrom the Allied capitals, and the probable lack of accommodation and faciliv ties for communication. It is npteV ;worthy that the latter disadvantage is "Jueing felt in connection with, the Mu■•dajnga,,. conference.l —Keuter. •
