FARMERS' UNION. ' 1 The usual monthly meeting of the! I local union was held in the schoolroom ( | on Wednesday evening, Mr. Fired Mills , (president) in the chair. There was, a very good muster of members present, ! and keen interest was manifested in , the various subjects brought forward, j The boys' and girls' club root-grow- j ing competition, and lucerne growing i . came under review. It was, after; I mature consideration, decided to go in i for' root growing competition areas to ; be not less than: Swedes 1 acre, soft turnips J-acre, mangels £-acre, carrots I j i-acre. Quantities can be marked out j of larger areas. \ Lucerne Growing. j I Lucerne will be judged in three! ' classes, viz., one year old, two years, ' | and mature crops; areas not less than j (one acre; the whole paddock to be) i judged. Entrance fees, 2s 6d for first,j i entry and Is for each subsequent entry. I The above fees io refer to all competiI tions. Entries close on December 1, 1 1922, with the hon. secretary, Mr. H. | E. Batten. Boys' and Girls' Clubs. Messrs H. J. Fmlay and Arthur Playle were appointed a supervising committee for the calf and root, growing competition in connection with the boys' and girls' club. RAINFALL FOR SEPTEMBER, > Mr. H. Livingston informs me that during the month of September, 1922, ! 2.53 inches of • rain fell on nine days. - J The heaviest downpour was on the 11th, , I when .68 fell . For the same month in ;' 1921 2.11 inches fell on ten days"; in ; 1920 2.56 inches was precipitated on 13 t_ days. This rainfall is fairly consistent j and regular, and herein lies the secret > of our great wealth in South Taranaki.
