-——-■ ♦ / THEIR "GRATITUDE" TO THE BRITISH ARMY.

The Dumbarton Herald (Scotland) has the following: The memory of the "Old Cohtemptibles" at Mons, retreating stepOby step and fighting every inch of ground against overwhelming Hun forces, is now jeered at by the extremists, who were'glad to shelter behind them during the war. In the Worker (June 17) a paragraph is quoted describing a pigeon race from Mons to Newcastle. The Worker comments: "The pigeon is reckoned the swiftest of all moving things, bui for many years its. reputation has beer overshadowed by the magnificent speed achieved by the British Army ir evacuating Mons in 1914. The pigeons, we understand, are delighted at thi» opportunity to retain the championship." '
