Interviewed, Patterson•■said that m his opinion what Anderson accomplished against Tilden showed his judgment was not; awry in picking him instead of Wood for the singles. Anderson, despite his illness and lack of practice, proved he had at least a ten to one .chance of beating Tilden and Johnston, which, considering his average form, was all he might have.expected. Wood, on the other hand, with all his steadiness, would not have had a chance .against either. added: •,' Wood never makes any s irious pretensions in regard'to singles, but he is a woiderful doubles player. Anderson and myself have beaten him so often ie singles that my choice was practically compulsory, and this fact is .thoroughly realised by tennis followers an-Australia. sJ .■ f
