EGMONT A. AND P. ASSOCIA= TION.
MEETING OS GENERAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the-general committee of the iLgiiiunt A. and r. Association was held at the office of the association on Saturday afternoon last. There were present Messrs H. Middleton (president), F. Gillanders (vice-presi-dent), G. ford (treasurer), M. G. ! t/righton (secretary), Forbes, W. MaL'Dowie, A. L. Campbell, A. Good, } X A. Washer, E. 3. betts, S. Blake, A. Coleman, J. McAllum, T. Tait, is. I O. Lysaght, F. Hoskin, P. Bond, A. I Hunter, F. Mills, junr., E. Death, I). Crocker, J. Nicholson, \Y. It. Butler, W. Gilbert, B. C. Gibson, C. H. Washer. Apologies were read from Messrs R. J. Linn, E. Meuli, J. Grant, H. L. Spratt, E. A. JNixon, and J. H. Baker. Mr. Nicholson, in accordance with notice of motion given, moved that no tickets be issued to members who had not paid their current year's subscription, in New Plymouth, he said, the practice Avas not to forward tickets unless the subscription for the current year had been paid, but members so ' situated would either have the tickets posted to them on payment of the subs or would find, on attending the show, their tickets at iiie gate, and could then pay and have the usual privileges. i It was found to be first necessary to rescind a standing resolution to the effect that tickets were withheld only when two years' subscriptions were unpaid. This resolution was rescinded. A general discussion followed, the feeling of the majority being that the motion was rather drastic, and Mr. Campbell moved and Mr. Lysaght seconded that tickets should be issued to all who were financial to the extent that all subscriptions, excluding that for the current year, had been paid. In the discussion variojis suggestions were made, but eventually the amendment "was carried practically without dissent. The president reported what had been done in the way of inducing the Wanganui Association, to hold their show a week earlier m order not to clash with the interests of the Egmont and Stratford associations. He read a letter from the Wanganui association, in which that association agreed to hold their show one week earlier for this, year as a trial, reserving the right to revert to the fortnight interval after the Palmerston Show if the experiment was found not to answer. It was resolved to thank the Wanganui association for meeting the Egmont association, and the action of the secretary and the fixing of the show dates ias November 15 and 16 were approved. The president said that the Wanganui association would be glad of the support of the Egmont association members In the way of entries. He also mentioned that the Stratford asso- ; ciation's dates had been fixed as ! November 22 and 23. | The meeting then proceeded to conI sider a suggestion of the auditor of the I association, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, as placed before the finance committee, i that the present mortgage on the show grounds be paid off by means of debentures of £25 each at a maximum interest of 6 per cent. The finance committee recommended that if the scheme was taken up Mr. Burdekin be allowed the usual brokerage on any debentures secured by his own efforts. l It was pointed out that the mortgage | was for £10,000 at 7 per cent., with i five years still to run. There was no doubt about the security being good, so there was no risk of the money being lost, and it was not a great matter to ; the individual debenture holders if a little interest was lost. The saving to ! the -association in interest charges would be very considerable, and assistance to the association would be corresponding. Mr. Campbell moved and Mr. Hoskin seconded that consideration of the proposal should be held over till after the show. Mr. Good moved as an amendment, and Mr. Lysagnt seconded, that consideration be postponed indefinitely. The amendment was lost and the motion carried by a considerable majority. Discussion then followed upon a suggestion made by Mr. S. C Tonks at a meeting of the executive committee that members be requested to voluntarily double their subscriptions. Finally, after considering various methods of bettering the financial position of the associat-on, it was resolved on the motion of Mr. Gillanders, seconded by Mr. E. A Washer, that a special effort be made by all members of the committee to secure donations and special prizes. The members of the committee made a start forthwith, with the result that special prizes in cash to the extent of £48 6s were donated, also a fat beast ror the guessing competition. The secretary reported that he had previous promises to the extent of too lls 6d, including the various breeders' associations' donations Reports from the Schedule Committee were received and d:scussed in detail, and suggestions made were reZ ed to the Schedule Committee. Messrs Trotter and Ford were ap- | pointed a sub-committee to go into the I matter of holding a concert or other entertainment on the first night of the snow. Ui\ Gillanders reported on meeting the Egmont Racing Club m regard to ottice accommodation proposals, and a further meeting was to be held Une resignation was received and the following new members were elected Messrs W. Rothery (Whakamara). J. ani) mg (Hawera >> and Jai«es Scott J? r.?;. A- her suggested that it was worth while considering a doe: section m the show schedule, and Mr Washer was deputed to interview the local Kennel Club ana report Ihe Finance Committee met afterwards to transact routine businesa.
