GENERAL TELEGRAMS.

FIRE AT GREYMOUTH. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GREYMOUTH, July 31. An outbreak of fire occurred at Stratford and Blair's sawmill in Gresson Street last evening. The main building was gutted. The brigade accomplished a creditable save by extinguishing the fire before it seriously damaged the machinery. The damage is estimated at £500, and is covered by insurance, but details are not available. The yard was stacked with timber, but escaped the flajrnes. The manager, Mr. '!> Tennent, said it was presumed that ; the fire started as the result of boys occupying an upper room of the mill. It was the habit, he said, for a number of irresponsible youths to go up there and indulge in smoking and playing cards on Sunday afternoons, anc] on several occasions they had been turned out.
