DAVIS CUP. i (Received July 31, 8.5 a.m ) NEW YORK, July 29. At the request of the Davis Cup committee, Tilden and Richards played Washburn and Williams, ostensioly for the purpose of enabling-the committee to cnoose the doubles team for the Cup. Tilden and Richards defeated their opponents, 6 —3, 6—4, I—6, 6—3, clearly demonstrating their superiority in every department of the game. Patterson and Anderson defeated Wertheim and William Johnson in an exhibition match, 2—6, 6—2, 6 —4.
